H1N1 Update for October 19, 2009
Dear Parents,
We continue to make an extra effort to keep the school clean and sanitized. Our teachers and students are helping by frequently washing hands, cleaning and sanitizing desks, sinks, door knobs, etc.
Please remember to keep students home when they are sick with cough, fever, sore throat, etc. Keeping sick students home is the best thing that we can do to minimize our exposure to the virus.
In an effort to keep parents informed of the illness situation at Barratt, I will begin to post the percentage of absent students at our school. I hope this information will be helpful to parents. Principals have also been asked to notify the Alpine School District administration when our absences exceed 10% of our student body. (Note: Some absences may be for reasons other than illness.)
The following information is our most current update:

School H1N1 Policy
Flu season is quickly approaching. Barratt Elementary and the Alpine School District are working with the Utah County Health Department in preparation for the H1N1 virus. I appreciate our custodial staff for making an extra effort to keep our school clean and sanitized. Our teachers and students are also helping by frequently washing hands, cleaning and sanitizing desks, light switches, door knobs, etc.
PLEASE REMEMBER that if your child has a combination of flu-like symptoms, they should not attend school for at least 24 hours after the symptoms are gone. (This includes fever which has been gone for 24 hours without medication.) Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue, diarrhea and vomiting.
Keeping sick students home is the best thing we can do to minimize our exposure to the virus. PLEASE remember to ALWAYS call the school when your child is sick or will be absent for other reasons. When you call your child can be marked as an “excused absence”.
Thank you for all you do to support Barratt!
Sincerely,
Brent L. Palmer
