Principal’s Message November 2009
You may have noticed, as you have driven past the school, orange pedestrian flags posted at our crosswalk. These flags were placed there as part of an Eagle Scout project done by Adam Crawley. Pedestrian flags have also been placed at the crosswalk on 1100 North and 1300 West and at several other locations through out Pleasant Grove. I would like to personally thank Adam for taking a personal interest with this project. It will help both students and patrons cross more safely at our busier locations and intersections. I would like to encourage you to take time, as a family, to properly discuss with your children crosswalk safety. For the most part our students are very conscientious about using crosswalks, but a few are still crossing the street (1300 West) outside of the crosswalk, especially if a parent is waiting to pick them up. Please do not wave your children across the street at a random location, but encourage them to use the crosswalk and then walk to your location using sidewalks. I would also like to, again, address the current flu season with specific precautions. The most important thing you can do is remember good sanitation and hygiene practices. It is important to wash hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Using a hand sanitizer and/or disinfecting wipes are also proactive measures. Each one of our classrooms, including the media center and computer lab, has hand sanitizer available. We also wipe down the keyboards in the computer lab and phones on a regular basis. If you prefer, you can also send a bottle of hand sanitizer with your student for his or her own personal use. Receiving a flu vaccination is also recommended. When students with flu like symptoms come to the office they are maintained in the nurses office until a parent can pick them up. If a student is sick they should stay home for at least 24 hours after a fever breaks. If there is a household member who is sick, as well, it is recommended that the student stay at home for five days. If this is the case please notify the school so homework arrangements and attendance exceptions can be provided. Please remember that it will take everyone’s effort and help in getting through this unusual flu season. Also, remember that an individual can contract the flu anywhere, not just at school.
Sincerely,
Mr. Westover
