Wow!  What a wonderful and exciting school year this has been.  Some of the highlights have included:

  • Getting Interactive Smart Boards installed in every classroom to enhance the use of technology in student learning.
  • Thanks to the efforts of Jamie Smith and Eva Thayn, we have had two new web sites this year; one for the school and one for the PTA.
  • We feel parents have been kept better informed through the use of Parent Link to call each family with a message about upcoming events.
  • We have collected e-mail addresses for almost every family so we can contact parents in case of an emergency.
  • The long anticipated construction of twelve new classrooms has finally begun and is progressing rapidly.
  • Due to the economic recession, we were faced with major budget cuts half way through the year.  As we worked together with the District, we did everything possible to not have the cuts affect students and classroom teachers.
  • We began the year with five new members on our School Community Coucil.  They have made a contentious effort to focus on our greatest academic needs as they relate to student achievement.
  • We would like to thank Evan Thayn and the PTA for their countless hours of volunteer service to the students at Sego Lily Elementary.  They are such an important part of what makes Sego Lily great.

NEW CONSTRUCTION

We have begun construction of twelve new classrooms in front of the school.  They will also be building a new office area, bathrooms, and enlarging the faculty room and workroom.

We appreciate the support and patience of parents as we have developed walking routes, bus loading and unloading, student pickup and drop off.

Change is always difficult, but we have recieved many positive comments about the success of the transition.

We know the wait time for picking up students is still longer than we would like and are trying to find ways to speed up the process.

Starting in June, the construction company will be demolishing the office area.  As a result, we will be moving the office to Room 15.  You will need to enter at the back of the school.  There will be signs up explaining where to find the office.

We meet with the contractor, achitect, district personnel, subcontractors every week to discuss items of concern.  If you have any questions or concerns you would like me to bring up at this meeting, please e-mail me at rodtuck@gmail.com or call the school.

Construction will take a year to complete.  This means that we will all have to work together to make the most of this situation.  There are some challenges, but there is also an air of excitement.  It will be exciting for the students to have an opportunity to watch as the new classrooms are being built.
