Fox Hollow Stop and Think (or GO) Program
Parent Explanation
The Stop and Think program is not intended for every minor infraction. It will be used in conjunction with other classroom incentives, routines and procedures. It is used only when a child needs to be removed from the large group setting.
Stop and Think Rules are:
- I will not harm others, my environment, or myself.
- I will always respect and follow authorized adult guidance.
- When given a Stop and Go, I will leave the classroom silently, within 30 seconds, and will immediately go to a teacher-designated location.
A warning before a Stop and Think is designed to have a student reflect on his or her behavior and make appropriate corrections himself. Teachers use statements like, "Are you making a wise decision?" Or, "Are you sure you want to be doing that?"
A Stop and Think is a Five Minute time out in a designated location in the classroom. The third infraction within a class period becomes a Stop and Go. The Stop and Think count starts over each time a child changes class.
A Stop and Go is an extended time spent in a different supervised area. When a student receives a Stop and Go, he/she takes a Stop and Go form with some valid class work and goes to the Stop and Go area in a partner-teacher's classroom. This new setting will allow the student to serve time away from their peers.
Other rules and guidance:
When a Stop and Go is given, a copy of the form is sent home with the student for parents to read and sign. If the form is not returned the next day with a parent signature, a second copy is sent home. If your student fails to return the second form also, the teacher will have your student call a parent and explain the situation.
